Arrived in Bangkok
Arrived in Bangkok and OH MY GOD, this is like the craziest city in the world. I have never experienced anything quite like it. It is such a huge culture shock. In the 5 minutes I’ve been here, I cried a little bit, a one legged boy grabbed my leg and wouldn’t let go until I gave him money, I took an outdoor shower and a lizard crawled on me.
Although, when I came out of my hostel, its was all worth while when a little Thai girl smiled and bowed at me. Very strange feeling.
Anyway, I have to try find a phone to call home. I’ll write again with some photos later
Switch to The Atlanta Hotel. It’s at the very end of Sukhumvit and Soi 2. Any Taxi driver will take you there. A single is about 480 B, with air-con and hot shower. It’ll make easing into Bangkok much easier.
As a follow-up:
The first 24 hours in BKK are the hardest. Everyone will admit that. You’ll start to ask yourself why you even made the trip. Once you meet some local people and other travelers things will settle in. It’s a massive city that never stops. That’s the hard part. You sometimes feel rather alone.
By the end of the trip you’ll become immune to beggers, the heat and the overall crazy pace of the city. You’ll crave it when you get home.
Thanks Mike. Im starting to feel a bit more welcome right now. Craziest city I have ever been in
